Caring for Hanging Baskets & Other Containers
Water

As a general rule your Hanging Baskets may need more watering than the other plants in your garden or containers on the ground. Hanging up in the air they will dry more quickly just like clothes on a clothesline. As well your container plants will likely dry faster than bedded plants. So take note of this and check them for water more frequently than the rest of your garden The life source of all living things. It is best to water in the morning so foliage and stems may dry as the day goes by. Watering at night is not a good idea. You don't like going to bed with wet feet and neither do your plants. Remember: The
hotter it is the
more they will drink so the frequency of your watering really depends on how hot or dry it is.
Feed
Feed your plants weekly. As they grow they want to be fed. It is very important in order to maintain strong healthy plants. Shade plants need to be fed less often. Petunias are heavy eaters and can tolerate more frequent feeding approximately 2-3 times a week.
Cut them Back
Remember if the plants in your Hanging Baskets or Other Container get really long you should CUT THEM BACK Cut Cut Cut.a good rule of thumb is to cut back to the bottom of the container. Yes it's a bit painful to do
but the plant will love this, be rejuvenated and will look great a lot longer. This will actually make for a stronger plant as every cut will give you 2-4 new breaks and you take that extra downward pulling or weight off of the top of the plant.
Bugs
What's this pouch in my Hanging Basket or Other Container? Just another way we try to stay as "Green" as possible! Instead of using sprays to take care of harmful bugs on our plants we insert this little white pouch is filled with many tiny good bugs who will hatch over time and move about your plant feeding on bad bugs that may land on the plant to feed on it. It is easily hidden in your foliage and you feed and water as normal the tiny good bugs will take care of themselves. If your container doesn't have a little white pouch it has a little mound of the same stuff that's in the pouches.
Remember these good bugs take care of some of the most common bad bugs but not all that are out there so still keep an eye out on your plant for pest problems and take care of them with an organic type of insecticide soap.
